Resolution through Celebration
March 23, 2019 - 7:30PM
Wellington Cathedral of St. Paul
Corner of Hill and Molesworth Streets
How many ways can you hear the word "Alleluia"? Well, Inspirare and Schola Cantorum will offer 14 unique and innovative settings of this glorious text. The selections will come from different musical periods dating back to the Baroque and on through 2019. One would expect to hear the standard "Hallelujah" chorus from Messiah, but you will also be able to join in during the singing of this great chorus. We will also feature Beethoven's Hallelujah from The Mount of Olives, two new settings by Sydney Guillaume and Thomas LaVoy, and some standard settings by Eric Whitacre, Randall Thompson, Ralph Manuel (to name a few), and even a rendition of Cohen's popular Hallelujah arranged for the King's Singers.
Inspirare will be joined by Schola Cantorum, the premier choir from St. Mark's School, under the direction of Anya Nazaruk. The concert will be accompanied by Michael Stewart, director of music at Wellington Cathedral, and guest instrumentalists Toby Pringle and Shadley van Wyk.
